When I was 10, I wrote a poem called “The Ocean and Me.” It was terrible in retrospect but it was close to my heart. If I ever need a moment of peace, I picture the sea. This was a such beautiful post, it made me want to drive three hours to the ocean! thank you!
this is so ethereal and dreamy, like a captivating siren song or ocean treasure washed tenderly upon the shore. it makes me want to dive into the ocean and transform into a mermaid like i always dreamed of as a child. thank you for writing this incredible, devotional, poetic piece of writing 🤍
Darling Anna, this came in such great time (right before I went back to the sea)! I reread this, now I'm inland once more, thinking about the last time I was there, when I realized all I wanted to do was to come back, and thinking about all these stories I love, which I realized were all sea-related: an apprenticeship or the book of pleasures, the lady from the sea, to the lighthouse, at the bay, even that bit in fear and trembling about agneta and the merman. I've spent the last few days reading fairytalesque mermaid stories (the little mermaid, the fisherman and his soul, undine) and thinking about the difference having the sea close by makes, even when you can't see it. I love how you relate to the moon (would love to hear your thoughts on her) and the sea, there seems to be an undercurrent running through them, and dreams, something unconscious, unheimlich (this is just to say I share your obsessions). Anyway, beautiful as usual, from a fellow atlantic (former) dweller.
